Coes ford
On Friday the 7th of september Burnham school went school went to Coes Ford. At Coes Ford, we had three activities to do. My group went to the river for our first activity. My group went down to the river for the river activity. We had to use a kick net to catch little fish that live in the small rocks at the bottom of the river and then we would put them into their species in little white containers.
For our second activity we did tree planting. Firstly the lady showed us how to plant the tree, then it was our turn.
For our last activity we looked at bugs and learnt about how important they are to nature and why NZ needs more trees.
We need more trees in NZ for wildlife, bugs and oxygen.

How to plant a tree
How to plant a tree
New Zealand needs more trees for there native birds to live in otherwise they will go extinct. At Coes Ford, Burnham School planted over 600 trees for our wildlife. I am going to tell you you how to plant a tree.
Firstly you will need to dig a hole big enough to fit your plant and fertilizer pill in.once you have dug your hole you need to put your fertilizer pill in the side of your hole then cover it with soil. Then you plant your tree. you plant by pressing lightly around the pot then putting your fingers around the tree trunk and tipping it upside down carefully and when it comes out put the plant back right way up and then put your tree in the hole.
Now you have to stomp around your plant to make sure there are no air pockets in the ground, so when it rains your plant won't sink.
Next wrap your blanket around your tree by putting it in each cut in the
blanket.
Then put one bamboo stick in one of the holes in the blanket.then put the plastic sleeve around the bamboo stick and the tree.next put the other three bamboo sticks inside the plastic sleeve and into the other three holes.
Now you have finished planting your tree.your tree will need to be watered to help the trees growth.

How to make a hangi
A hangi is usually on special occasions like birthdays and christmas. This is how to make a hangi.
Firstly you will need to dig a hole in the ground big enough to fit food baskets in. You will need to place logs biggest to smallest in the bottom of the hole.
Secondly rocks will need to be added preferably volcanic rocks because normal rocks will explode. Now your hangi fire can be lit.
Your fire will smolder until the rocks become white hot. When the fire stops you will need to remove all the ash and embers to a safe place to be extinguished.
Now you can put your food baskets in to your hole and relax for about 4 to 5 hours. Your hangi is done and you can eat your food.
